Debian + ubuntu packaging roundup

#1

I keep missing a couple of you on IRC, and Adam pointed out this venue
is underutilized.

hey. are you working on packaging the mixlibs?

These are done. They’ve been in debian NEW for about a month. I’m not
sure why they’re still there, nor who to ask at this moment. The
automatic email says “Your package contains new components which
requires manual editing of
the override file. It is ok otherwise, so please be patient. New
packages are usually added to the override file about once a week.”

I try to keep tickets up to date on this stuff in JIRA, but for
real-time information you can check out qa.debian.org [1].

know how much work it would be to package the chef server and slice if we were to vendor all of the required gems into the dpkg?

About a day I think. There’s the man pages to be written, at least
skeleton’d. I made the ohai man page mostly from using help2man then
adding some verbiage.

I packaged the systemu gem to go along with the latest ohai release,
both [2][3] are waiting for a sponsor. Thom may be MIA, I really need
to find a backup sponsor.

NEW processing tends to be a FIFO, and there’s still quite a lot of
stuff in front of mixlibs - http://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html

Sorry, new job (and moving between NYC and London) has basically
destroyed my free time over the last month. I’ll try and make some
time for this over the next few days.

I joined the debian pkg-ruby-extras team and got libsystemu-ruby
sponsored through them. It should continue to work pretty well for the
smaller ruby dependencies.

No worries, I hope you’re getting settled in. Thanks for all of your
help! It’s been awesome.

Packaging up stompserver revealed more dependencies that I need to
figure out their usefulness and intended use and package. I believe
this is a complete overview of where we’re at packaging wise.

At least until the next release

Stompserver is ready to be sponsored. I didn’t upload it to mentors
yet as put it in pkg-ruby-extras. Ryan Niebur looked at it once and
gave it a +1 so we should be able to get it sponsored soon.

He found an interesting bug where if you’re subscribed in client mode
and recieve a message but don’t ack it, another client that is
blocking waiting for a message won’t get that one even after the first
client disconnects. I brought it up on codehaus IRC. We’ll see if
anyone’s interested.

Joshua is working on libsyntax-ruby to get a feel for packaging then
diving into merb.
