**DevRel/Community**

benny Vasquez shared

_As I mentioned in_ [_#announcements_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/archives/C2S3D61LL) _last week, we’re officially targeting ChefConf as a digital event for September 7-9th. We’re in the SUPER VERY OMG EARLY stages of planning, but if you’ve got questions or just want to follow along as we share more,_ [_#chefconf_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/archives/CQM00GNNL) _is where to be! We’ll be running a CFP like normal, we’ll have a similar structure to last time (where some things are live-streamed, and some things are pre-recorded)_

_ALSO The docs team shipped a giant piece of work this week for Cookstyle/Upgrade Labs users. We now have all our Cookstyle rules up on_ [_docs.chef.io_](http://docs.chef.io/) _under the cookstyle page:_ [_https://docs.chef.io/workstation/cookstyle/cops/_](https://docs.chef.io/workstation/cookstyle/cops/) _. Each of the 200+ cops now have their own page that describes what the cops does and shows examples of good and bad code._

_In a future release of Cookstyle we’ll start showing these links next to each violation so we give folks the extra help they might need to fix stuff. A super huge thank you to our docs team for both working to get this all automated with each Cookstyle release and for pushing for the right UX here. (Thanks_ [_@Ian Maddaus_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/team/UQ75PH5RD) _and_ [_@kgarmoe_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/team/U3C9KE0AF) _!)_

# This week’s releases

**Chef Workstation**

benny Vasquez shared

_And that’s for Chef Workstation._

> _This includes a few nice bug fixes in the chef CLI, berkshelf, and Kitchen vCenter. It also makes some nice updates to the Workstation tray app to improve performance/security and ensure the app is running post install so we get some telemetry data flowing:_ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-workstation-21-2-278-released/19565_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-workstation-21-2-278-released/19565)

**Other releases**

tas50 shared

_Cookstyle 7.8 shipped. I didn't announce it since it was a fairly minor update. New RuboCop engine with some bugfixes and a pretty obscure Erb deprecation cop enabled for those writing really advanced libraries/resources._

_I also shipped 7.8.3 yesterday with updates the code to poop out those Cookstyle_ [_docs.chef.io_](http://docs.chef.io/) _links so you'll see a link for every cop that alerts in your codebase now._

# Updates

**Chef Infra Client**

tas50 shared

- _Work continues on Ruby 3.0 compatibility with Chef Infra Client. We're currently focused on ChefSpec as that's part of our test suite_
- _We're still working on splitting the knife command out of the chef gem, which will allow us to reduce the size of the Infra Client package and resolve security concerns from customers_
- _As part of the knife work we may also have a nice optimization for loading knife plugins that should result in a pretty significant performance boost_
- _Work continues on storing the client key in the windows certificate store_

**Chef Inspec**

cwolfe shared

_The Chef InSpec team is working on:_

- _Routine dependency updates_
- _Implementing Ruby 3 support_
- _Released a new version of kitchen-inspec, 2.4.0, with a new feature to configure plugins from the kitchen.yml (thanks_ [_@theinen_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/team/U37DFJ5NY) _!)_
- _Documented the json-automate reporter_
- _Added the ability to skip\_control no matter how deeply the profile is nested_

**Sous Chefs**

ramereth shared

_Hello from Sous Chefs!_

_Here's the list of new releases in the past week:_

- _grafana - 9.6.0: Added_ allow\_loading\_unsigned\_plugins _management_
- _iis - 7.5.0: Fixed_ iis\_pool _server-level app pool default value inheritance_
- _mariadb - 4.3.0: Make sleep configurable in_ apply-mariadb-root-password
- _nginx - 11.3.0: Add separate_ process\_\* _properties for nginx process use and group to_ nginx\_config _resource / Deprecate and alias the_ user _property_
- _resolver - 3.0.0: Port recipes and attributes to resources / Add systemd-resolved support_

**Cinc Updates**

ramereth shared

Hello from the Cinc Project!

_Cinc Workstation_

- _12.2.278 released via unstable channel_

_Still trying to find time to work on "stabilizing" our workstation build and also getting a windows build going._

## **See you next week!**
