_Up first, you might have noticed that_ [_discourse.chef.io/_](http://discourse.chef.io/) _is in read-only mode right now. We’re finally merging in the data from forums.habitat.sh, which should be done in the next couple hours. forums.habitat.sh will be going offline as soon as everything’s confirmed, and we can get the redirects in place._

_I also wanted to call attention to_ [_this message_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/archives/C0M1NGZE3/p1610011354485300) _from_ [_@Xorima_](https://chefcommunity.slack.com/team/UDG5853CG) _. If you got a new laptop recently, it’s worth working on finding a good home for the old one._

# This week’s releases

**Chef Habitat**

benny Vasquez shared

_Habitat got an update, too (including external contributions from_ [_sajjaphani_](https://github.com/sajjaphani) _)._ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/habitat-1-6-235-released/18085_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/habitat-1-6-235-released/18085)

_This release modifies the behavior around the Supervisor’s LOCK file. Take a look at the_ [_pull request_](https://github.com/habitat-sh/habitat/pull/8036) _to find out more details about that._

**Chef Infra Client**

benny Vasquez shared

_Chef infra client had a release a couple days ago, with all kinds of great work from both internal and external sources:_ [_https://t/chef-infra-client-16-9-16-released/18076_](https://t/chef-infra-client-16-9-16-released/18076)

tas50 shared

_Chef Infra Client 15.15.0 shipped as well. I had planned to post that today, but it's a bit hard with RO discourse_ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-infra-client-15-15-0-released/19423_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-infra-client-15-15-0-released/19423) _That release includes several nice bugfixes backported from the 16 branch and resolves multiple CVEs_

**Chef Inspec**

benny Vasquez shared

_Chef Inspec got an update to 4.24.26 just a couple days ago (including external contributions from_ [_@rgeissert_](https://github.com/rgeissert) _and_ [_@kclinden_](https://github.com/kclinden) _!) One note from that update: macOS 10.13 is no longer a supported platform for Chef InSpec. You can check out the release notes here._ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-inspec-4-24-26-released/18073_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-inspec-4-24-26-released/18073)

_And 4.24.28 was released late last as a hotfix; 4.24.26 had a serious issue on Windows._ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-inspec-4-24-28-released/19420_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-inspec-4-24-28-released/19420)

**Chef Workstation**

benny Vasquez shared

_And just yesterday Workstation had a release:_ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-workstation-21-1-222-released/18084_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/chef-workstation-21-1-222-released/18084)

_remember, if you haven’t moved to workstation yet, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Workstation replaces ChefDK, which went end of life last week:_ [_https://blog.chef.io/goodbye-chefdk-hello-chef-workstation_](https://blog.chef.io/goodbye-chefdk-hello-chef-workstation)

**Other releases**

tas50 shared

_Cookstyle got two updates to bring in new versions of Rubocop! We’re up to Rubocop 1.7.0 in Cookstyle 7.5._ [_https://discourse.chef.io/t/cookstyle-7-4-released/18046_](https://discourse.chef.io/t/cookstyle-7-4-released/18046)

- _Thanks to the OSUOSL, our MacOS builds are much faster now with a new x86-64 MacMini that isn't from 2011_
- _We now have a MacOS 11.0 builder working on Auditor, Client and Workstation_
- _Improved and refactored our cached builds work for Auditor, Client and Workstation. Plan to do the same for Server eventually as well._
- _We'll soon have access to an M1 MacMini which will enable us to build projects for that platform once Chef has resolved all upstream issues._

_I've started looking into the build issues with Workstation on Windows again starting with a better development environment for testing such issues. I plan on this in resulting in a new cookbook that we'll use for standardizing how we make our Linux, Windows and MacOS builders._
