Best Practice: revision control JSON files or not?

Hey folks,

I’m wondering, are the json files necessary to be checked in? It seems they
are generated as needed, or am I missing something?

Thanks,

Alex

Alex,
If you're using the ruby DSLs for roles and such, then you're correct.
These are converted to JSON by the rake tasks and can be safely
.gitignored.

Of course, if you're using a centralised repository with a work dir checkout on your Chef Server, you'll definitely want to KEEP these files in the repository so they are available when the Chef Server loads the cookbooks locally.
