Bootstap Windwos

I’ve tried to bootstrap windows:

Nikhils-MacBook-Pro:chef-repo nshah$ knife bootstrap 192.168.XX.XX -x

Bootstrapping Chef on 192.168.XX.XX
ERROR: Network Error: Operation timed out - connect(2)

Is there something different that needs to be done?

Check out the requirements - you need to make sure windows remote
management is setup and configured to accept the connection.

Pete,

I've install Windows Remote Management and configured it like the site showed. I still am receiving this error…Would it be a firewall related issue?

Could be. Could be windows firewall. You could try to connect to it from another windows box via remote management to see if you can at least reach it and confirm its a remote issue.

What does 'knife windows' output? Make sure you have the chef-windows
knife plugin installed. Afair it's not part of the default chef install.

Nikhil,

Reading that output, it looks like you have 2 copies of Chef installed, one
in your local system Ruby, and then the Omnibus installer.

I'd deinstall the former and try again. You have probably installed the
knife-windows gem into the latter and are trying to use Chef/Knife from the
former.

Julian,

I am not sure how I would check to see If i have 2 copies, also how would i go about removing one of the copies?

I've used the chef docs to install:

curl -L http://www.opscode.com/chef/install.sh | sudo bash
sudo gem install chef
Grabbed the tar ball of chef-repo from the opscode site.

Supposed to be 1 or the other, not both.

You have 2 chef installs

  1. Installed wherever your ruby is (the gem)
  2. Installed in /opt/chef (the Omnibus installer gotten via curl)

I;ve done a gem uninstall chef and it removed chef:

Successfully uninstalled chef-11.6.0

I tried running running the knife bootstrap windows winrm and here is the new errors:

Disregard, it was a user permission error.
