Documentation on How to Rename Your Chef Server Host?

#1

Hi,

It appears that renaming a Chef server host is non-trivial.

I didn’t get into it, just causally noticed that RabbitMQ falls over and dies if the host name is changed.

The remediation for that is in Section 6.9 of the RabbitMQ docs, search for “change_node_name”. Here’s a link to the page:

http://www.erlang.org/doc/apps/mnesia/Mnesia_chap7.html#id74479

The mere 25-lines-or-so of Erlang listed there should fix up everything nicely.

Is there a complete list of pitfalls and steps necessary when renaming your Chef server host anywhere?

Thanks,
Ken

I do not believe so. This would be a great contribution to the wiki!
