Habitat Release Cycle TurkeyDay '16

Heads up Habitants,

The Habitat team has decided to forego our bi-weekly release cycle for this week which is currently scheduled for Thursday, November 24th. The reasons for this are two-fold:

  • It’s a US Holiday! Primarily, we’d like to avoid forcing the team to be on-call and available should something go horribly wrong with the release so that we can focus on what is most important - being home with our families.

Now you might ask “Well, why not just release on Friday or Wednesday”? which brings us to:

  • This week we have a very, very large change coming down the Habitat pipe. This kind of change (while it technically does not break any kind of backwards compatibility) is incredibly significant to the codebase. What we would like to avoid is merging a huge PR only to cut a release a couple of days later and end up in a state where its a holiday_weekend and folks are in and out, potentially unable to cut a new release to fix any unexpected catastrophic failures.

The next release will now occur on Thursday, December 8th. You can totally expect that will be a pretty awesome rollup of things and this will give us more time to test all of the new features and functionality before we release them into the wild. Thank you for your patience and understanding and we hope you have a totally awesome holiday weekend!
