How to Install chef on Solaris 10?

Hi all,
I’ve been working away on this for 2 days and not getting very far.

When running ‘gem install chef’ gem wants build a gem native extension
called yajl. Unfortunately mkmf doesn’t want to compile anything on my
system.

If I install GCC and symlink /opt/SUNWspro/bin/cc to it then gcc
doesn’t recognise the -xarch=386 argument.
If I install Sun Studio 12.1 to get SUNWspro then I get cc: -W option
with unknown program all.

I just upgraded rubygems to 1.8.5 and that has no effect.

My last option would be to write a wrapper for CC that only let
through the arguments that I thought should be let through.

Any thoughts from anybody?

Many thanks in advance,
Edawrd

Hi Edward,

Just quickly - are you using Sparc or Intel architecture. If you're
using Intel, we can help right away. If you're using Sparc, watch
this space for a few days.
