Validatorless Bootstrapping blog post

Just published a bit of an overdue blog post:

This covers a feature that was released in Chef 12.2.0 already, so
everyone can already take advantage of this.

Is there a proper or recommended way for updating the embedded version of chef-client/knife that comes with the ChefDK in order to make use of this functionality? Latest version of ChefDK (0.4.0) comes with Chef 12.0.3.

Thanks,
Curtis

Hold tight for ChefDK 0.5 releasing later today (hopefully). In general, no, you cannot upgrade the version of Chef that comes with ChefDK.

+1 for waiting for ChefDK 0.5 if you can.

I would add that if you always need to be on the latest bits and pieces for development because of upstream dependencies you may get some mileage with Fraser Nichol’s excellent chefdk-update-app, which will let you update packaged bits and binstubs etc. to any version. Thank you Fraser for creating this tool.
