We are delighted to announce the availability of version 1.7.4 of Chef 360 Platform.

Chef 360 Platform 1.7.4 introduces Courier job drafts and step reordering, adds metadata-driven dynamic configuration for interpreters, delivers a local execution mode for the Courier Runner, and resolves bugs affecting the DSM UI, device registration, and cookbook imports.

Prerequisites

Before upgrading to Chef 360 Platform 1.7.4, you must be running at least version 1.7.1. For more information, see the supported upgrade path.

New features

  • You can save Courier jobs as drafts during creation and resume editing them in the same or a later session. Anyone with job editing permissions can continue a draft before it’s published as an active job.

  • Interpreter command payloads now use metadata and a modified JSON schema to generate configuration forms in the Chef 360 UI. You can support custom interpreters by supplying valid metadata without a product release.

  • You can insert steps before or after existing steps and reorder them in the Courier job creation wizard. The wizard warns you when changes affect conditions or variables and preserves previously configured step data.

  • A new --zero flag for courier-runner enables local job execution without requiring Chef 360, AMQP, or network connectivity. You can provide job definitions using --job-file or --stdin, and use --dry-run for static validation of job schemas, interpreter availability, and step conditions before execution. Zero mode writes structured, redacted JSON output to stdout or to a directory you specify with --output-dir, so you can inspect results without a Chef 360 connection.

Improvements

  • You can now see the current Chef 360 Platform version at the bottom of the left navigation bar on every page. The displayed version updates automatically after you upgrade.

  • You can now view the Tenant ID directly on the tenant page, so you can quickly reference tenant-specific information for support requests and troubleshooting.

  • DSM now checks cookbook sizes against the internal gateway body limit before starting an import. If a cookbook exceeds the limit, you get clear guidance on how to proceed instead of a silent failure.

Bug fixes

  • SAML login failure with X.509 certificate validation: Fixed an issue where SAML single sign-on failed with an HTTP 500 error when signature validation was enabled with a valid X.509 certificate.

  • The DSM node view now correctly renders nodes with long fully qualified domain names. Previously, the UI broke when a node’s FQDN was long.

  • The Role and Organization selector now correctly shows your previous selections immediately after login. Previously, a regression introduced in 1.7.3 left the checkboxes empty after an upgrade.

  • The Policyfiles list now correctly displays the same, up-to-date revision ID for a Policyfile across page refreshes. Previously, refreshing the page could show a different revision ID for the same Policyfile.

  • Device registration now correctly succeeds for users with both Tenant Admin and Org Admin roles. Previously, registration failed with a permissions error for these users.

  • Cookbook imports now correctly support cookbooks containing non-ASCII characters. Previously, these imports failed due to missing locale configuration.

  • Airgap bundle builds now trigger correctly. Previously, builds failed because required container images couldn’t be pulled from the registry.

Security updates

  • Resolved critical and high CVEs in Erlang/OTP and platform container images.
  • Fixed sensitive build artifacts shipping in container images.
  • Fixed a case-sensitivity bypass in the API gateway’s route enforcement.

Dependency updates

  • PostgreSQL: Upgraded from 16.13 to 18.4.
  • Angular: Upgraded platform UI from Angular v19 to v20.
  • Go runtime: Updated Go runtime to version 1.26.5 across platform services.
  • KEDA: Upgraded autoscaling components to the latest stable version.
