Cookbook Releases, snow day edition

apt v1.8.4, v1.8.2

(v1.8.4 included a README update)

  • [COOK-2112] - need [] around “arch” in sources.list entries
  • [COOK-2171] - fixes a regression in the notification

couchdb v2.1.0:

  • [COOK-2139] - fedora has couchdb package, no EPEL required

fail2ban v1.0.2:

  • [COOK-2217] - Users should be able to configure the email address
    fail2ban uses to send messages

iptables v0.10.2:

  • [COOK-2250] - improve readme

java v1.9.0:

  • [COOK-2236] - Update the Oracle Java version in the Java cookbook to
    release 1.7u11

Previously, v1.8.2:

  • [COOK-2205] - Fix for missing /usr/lib/jvm/default-java on Debian

runit v1.0.0

This version has some backwards incompatible changes (hence the major
version bump). It is recommended that users pin the cookbook to the
previous version where it is a dependency until this version has been
tested in a non-production environment (use version 0.16.2):

depends "runit", "<= 0.16.2"

If you use Chef environments, pin the version in the appropriate
environment(s).

  • [COOK-2254] - (formerly CHEF-154) Convert runit_service definition
to a service resource named runit_service.

Ohai Chefs,

(whoops, one of those "hit send on accident" things :-))

Today was a beautifully snowy day in Denver, so we've released some
cookbooks for you!

Of note, this includes an update to the java cookbook that installs the
latest Oracle Java version, and the runit 1.0 cookbook with the resource
that I mentioned last week. Note that we've made a mirrored "service"
resource which should provide backwards compatibility for existing
notifications, but we still recommend that you pin the previous version
and test the new release.

We have some big changes coming to our Nagios cookbook thanks to Tim Smith
and Ben Hartshorne. I'll follow-up with a separate email about that.

Hope yall stayed warmer than me today.
