Have you heard that you can use leverage InSpec features to manage your cloud security posture? Check out this blog post to learn more about new InSpec 6 features like Parallelism and InSpec Suggest. New in Cloud Security: Parallelism and Suggestions for Cloud Security Posture Management

I’m sure you all have noticed that topics and questions from Discourse are now being sent to Slack. Thanks to those who have been going the extra mile to answer these questions. Usually, people who post to Discourse are new to Chef and may be unaware of our Slack community. The thing I love most about Discourse is that when a question is answered, it’s indexed to the internet so others can find it in the future. It’s like a gift that keeps on giving. So keep being awesome and helping the Chef newbies, you rock!

I fell behind a bit adding the Community Meeting notes to Discourse but I plan to get caught up by tomorrow.

This week in DevRel, we’re evaluating tools to help us measure community engagement. If there are any that you know of and like, feel free to drop it in a thread and we’ll add it to the list to evaluate.

Chef Infra Client

Thomas Powell shared

Shortly before the Chef final GA build of Client 18 an issue was discovered with FIPS support for windows. We are currently investigating the root cause and correcting the issue. However please note FIPS support will not be available in the initial GA (18.0) version for Windows (all versions). We have prioritized the remediation for this issue and FIPS support will be released in the next minor version of Chef Infra Client 18.1. The date of issuance for Chef Infra Client 18.1 with FIPS support is under review and will be updated on all major communication channels when established.

Hello from Chef Server! Where can I get all the shiny icons and bells and whistles like the Automate team uses? Jealous!

  • AWS SigV4 implementation merged.
  • Automated SigV4-related testing on Umbrella.
  • Working on virtual hosted URL capability when connecting to S3.
  • Working on new s3 'path or vhost' config setting.
  • Working on the chef server release 15.2.x
  • Working on the Opensearch version update to 1.3.6
  • Working on the OpenJDK version update to 11.0.17.
  • Resolving knife-ec-backup related issues in A2HA.

And that concludes our update for today :slightly_smiling_face:

Not much to update from the InSpec Team. We continue to be working toward an InSpec 6 release, while being primarily dedicated to an internal project.

Chef Workstation

Hi All! Here is what Workstation & Omnibus folks are working on..
Workstation

  • Refactoring the UI code so API calls are more manageable. This is to have a PR readied for the upcoming GUI app.
  • Still pending on development front - search and sort in the cookbook list view. We might bring it in a follow up iteration.

Omnibus

  • Planning toward identifying a way to split build-only and packaging steps.
  • Omnibus project to build universal macOS package for infra client is almost ready. Need to refer parameterised chef-client version to package & introduce a minor config in omnibus to support this use-case.
