Hello!
The time has come to re-open (or should I say re-re-re-re-re-open) the
discussion about moving our mailing list off of its current infrastructure
and onto something else.
We’ve looked at using Google Groups to host our fancy new mailing lists
but that doesn’t seam feasible primarily because it’s going to be nearly
impossible to cleanly migrate all of our existing messages to Google
Groups.
To that end, we’d like to enlist (pun intended) your help in trying out
Simplelists.com to see if this platform will suit our needs.
How can you help?
We’ve created a test mailing list [1] and have imported messages from the
Chef Announce mailing list there. Have a look around and try subscribing,
sending and replying to messages, and anything else you currently do with
the mailing list. How does it work for you? Any feedback?
The test email list will receive messages at
chef-test@opscode.simplelists.com.

Just a reminder that I'll be in a Google+ Hangout this afternoon if you'd

My original message said that the hangout would be at 12:30 UTC but, as
time zones are hard, I lied. It will be held at 16:30 UTC which in 12:30
EDT which is my time zone.

Someone else said that their "confirm subscribe" link went to the spam folder in Gmail, and this happened to me as well. Maybe we can see if this is something simplelists can fix.

I also find the web interface for simplelists to be just okay. For example, there's no link to a web-based view of the archives on this page: http://opscode.simplelists.com instead you have to know to go to http://opscode.simplelists.com/chef-test. Once you're there, there's no search (I guess you could just go to the google for that). The thread view is serviceable, but individual messages don't have the presentation standardized, so you get grey-on-white stuff (with formatting cruft) like this: http://opscode.simplelists.com/chef-test/msg/878835
Neither of these are deal-breakers for me, but I do use these when bringing a thread to someone's attention. Even if they're on the list, I don't have a URL to their inbox
