This week’s update from Automate team:

  • Automate and Automate HA capability now support OpenSearch
  • Document to upgrade to Automate v4.0.x is now available
  • Automate HA capability will be available as a soft launch package from next week
  • Pagination support has been added in control list API; should be available soon
  • Working on documenting configurations for invalid login attempts
  • Airgap bundles will soon be generated for each release of Automate

Chef Habitat

Hello from Habitat!
This week's updates:

  • Core plans refresh occured on Tuesday refreshing linux, linux2 and windows core plans
  • Investigating a way to scan packages for CVEs
  • Investigating supervisor strategies for ARM and we are experimenting with a concept of "native packages" See

Proposal: Native Packages, enabling Supervisor service support for platforms without packages. · Issue #8501 · habitat-sh/habitat

  • Minor cleanup of supervisor codebase
  • Adding end to end tests for builder worker
  • Improving On-Prem docs covering scale out scenarios
  • Will be releasing new habitat binaries built with refreshed core dependencies including a studio with refreshed core packages very soon (maybe today)

Chef Infra Client

This week’s update from client team:
Finishing up some work on the next release of Chef-17. This release will:
Fix issue in windows_certificate resource’s :delete action, which results in failure when no certificate is present
Fix issue with migrating client.pem to windows cert store
Handle exception for compliance phase error during chef spec run (PR)
Add support for default secret service and config (PR)
We are working on testing client secrets with various providers (Azure Key Vault, Hashi Vault, AWS Secrets Manager, Akeyless).
We are also trying generalise implementation of Secrets Manager for Azure Key Vault and IAM authentication for Hashi Vault so that it can be used non Azure/AWS platforms.
Added support for expire and inactive options to linux user resource (PR)
Handle exception for compliance phase error during chef spec run (PR)
Fix issue where rhsm_register does not flush chef internal package cache after registering (PR)

Chef InSpec Team:

  • Investigating several reported minor bugs, including:

  • Sensitive inputs in dependent profiles

  • Accessing a git dependent profile requires the current directory to be a git repo

  • Confusing output when multiple versions for the same profile are depended

  • Started work on adding resource_id methods to core resources

  • Internal demo of last quarter's work, including inspec parallel, inspec sign, and inspec init resource

Hi All! Here is what Workstation & Community Tools are working on

  • Automating the end-to-end test scenario for chef push/ install.
  • Just begun with e2e test automation for next set of kitchen plugins and knife.
  • Working on a screen accessible via tray icon to update Chef Infra Settings in Workstation.
  • Updating knife-vrealize to work with vRA 8.
  • Working to add support for multiple networks in kitchen-vcenter
